If the roots are rotten, repot as soon as possible. Once the transplant is complete, throw away the newspaper, which will have collected all the residue from the potting process: pot, bark, and support of the transplanted plant. For the next plant, spread out another newspaper, and so on. Scissors and knives should be disinfected with a 20% bleach solution (2 parts bleach to 5 parts water), and the process should be repeated after each transplant. The great Lecoufle recommended washing your hands with soap and water between each plant. It's a good idea to disinfect the amputated roots with a fungicide. At home, you can use cinnamon powder, which has good fungicidal and bactericidal properties. A small amount is enough, as it's phytotoxic, so it should only be applied to the cuts. It's best to wait a day or two for it to dry thoroughly and the wounds to begin to heal. Then, repot the plant in a new pot and with fresh orchid bark. Before using it, the bark should be thoroughly moistened, perhaps by soaking it overnight. Then, avoid watering until the roots begin to elongate. If it's very hot, you can mitigate the heat by frequently spraying the leaves. Fertilize again only once the roots have established a firm grip on the new pot.
