Les fantômes de Verdun

One hundred years ago: Verdun. 300 days and 300 nights of hell. The battle that remains the symbol of the Great War. Allan grew up on this land steeped in ghosts. The ghost of his great-grandfather, taken prisoner at the start of the fighting, and of all those soldiers, sacrificed on the battlefield. They were his age, or thereabouts. Today, he returns to the woods of his childhood where more than 50 million German and French shells rained down, to the ruins of those razed villages, to the ossuary where only the skulls and names of the young men sacrificed remain, and to the cemetery where more than 350,000 victims of this terrible battle rest.
