The Grand Mosque (Camii Kebir), built in 1953 in the İnönü neighborhood's central market after the 1939 Erzincan earthquake and serving as the city's central mosque, held its final Friday prayer today due to its impending demolition and reconstruction. The Grand Mosque, a place of deep memories for all of Erzincan's inhabitants, a venue for daily prayers, hosting religious celebrations, special days and months, where the call to prayer and funeral prayers echoed from its minarets, and where a spiritual atmosphere was fully experienced, opened its doors for its last Friday prayer today. Erzincan Governor Hamza Aydoğdu, Erzincan Member of Parliament Süleyman Karaman, Provincial Mufti İsmail Fakirullahoğlu, and a large congregation attended the prayer. The mosque and its courtyard were overflowing with worshippers who came for the final Friday prayer. Emotional moments were experienced by the citizens who came to the mosque. Citizens speaking to the Erzincan news agency experienced emotional moments due to the impending demolition of the mosque, which holds many memories for them, and expressed their gratitude to those involved in the construction of a new mosque.
