Commercial surrogacy in India | VPRO Metropolis
In the Indian village Anand is a house where wannabe parents from all over the world can turn to: the House of the Surrogate Mothers. For approximately 15.000 euro, Doctor Nayna Platel makes sure a surrogate mom makes her womb available to childless couples. Because surrogacy is a taboo in India, people refer to the clinic as the Baby Factory or as Rent-a-Womb. VPRO Metropolis is a video project by Dutch broadcast organization VPRO, that started in 2008. Metropolis is made by a global collective of young filmmakers and TV producers, reporting on remarkable stories from their own country or city.
