The Story of Jacob and Esau | Genesis 25, 27, 32, 33

Isaac, the son of Abraham, had twin boys, Jacob and Esau. Esau was born first, meaning he was the eldest. All of the possessions and promises God gave to Abraham, he gave to Isaac, and they should have then gone to Esau. But Esau traded away his birthright (all the possessions he was owed as the eldest son) to Jacob for some lentil stew. Also, before the boys were born, God told Rebekah, their mother, that the older son would serve the younger. So she helped Jacob trick Isaac into blessing Jacob instead of Esau. So now, everything that should have been Esau’s (all the possessions and the promises originally given to Abraham) now belonged to Jacob. Esau didn’t care about God’s blessings. Jacob, on the other hand, did everything he could to get those blessings. We shouldn’t lie or cheat like Jacob did, but we should absolutely pursue God’s blessings with everything we’ve got!
