As a replacement for the Datsun 310 model in North America, it shared many parts from the Nissan Sentra, but unlike the Sentra, it was marketed towards a a younger sports-car minded buyer. The second generation of the Pulsar NX also had a rear hatch that could be removed or replaced with a wagon-shaped design that they called the Sportbak.
