Setting up a ladder properly is important so that it doesn't move and you are safe while working. I once saw a guy near the top of his ladder when him and the ladder came crashing down in his driveway. The base of his extension ladder was on a slanted paved driveway with nobody or object to secure it. The ladder slipped from his weight and down they both came.
