The Grandparents Documentary 📜 In memory of my late pappou Dimitri Karadimos 06/06/2021. 🤍 Over a year ago when I first started film-making, the first idea I had was to create a documentary on my grandparents. I interviewed my yiayia and pappou on their couch in their forever home. I wanted to capture their important life story so I can remember and share with future generations the prosperous life they led and lived. I asked them about their long journey from Greece to Australia, why they fled, the world war, building a family and life here, the regrets they have (if any) and the advice they give to their family. A year had passed and I never finished editing the documentary. Sadly, my pappou passed away unexpectedly a few weeks ago and I deeply regret not completing it for him. Leading up to the funeral, I had to finish it in the 3 days I had while grieving. My family and friends at the funeral were taken back with smiles and tears. I know that he was watching with us and he will always be proud of the full life he lived - as he says in the documentary. Their is so much more I could add to the documentary but I promised I would finish it for my yiayia and appreciate its beauty. I’m beyond grateful I have this priceless memory of them together. My advice to everyone is that you should spend as much time as you can with your grandparents and always be present. The love they have for you is unconditional and they are so important to this world. I wish I could just spend one more moment with my pappou and tell him how much I love and thank him.
