Public outrage has erupted over the poor conditions at the Government Mother and Child Hospital in Udupi. Complaints regarding the infestation of rats, cockroaches, and mosquitoes inside the hospital have raised serious concerns about hygiene, patient safety, and the risk of disease spread. Following repeated grievances from the public, Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna conducted a surprise inspection of the hospital to assess the situation firsthand. During the visit, patients and attendants openly expressed their dissatisfaction in the presence of officials, highlighting issues related to sanitation, infrastructure, and healthcare services. Concerns were also raised about the quality of treatment available to economically weaker patients. Speaking after the inspection, MLA Yashpal Suvarna stated that the technologically advanced hospital building has become difficult to maintain under the current system. He assured that expert engineers would be consulted to redesign problematic sections of the building and prepare a new blueprint. The proposal will also include additional staff recruitment, better medical equipment, and major infrastructure upgrades aimed at transforming the hospital into a patient-friendly healthcare facility.
