This was the seventh match of the first phase of the 1989/90 ACB League basketball regular season, Series A-2, played at the Parque Pavilion in Huesca. Radio commentary was provided by José Antonio Martín "Petón" and José Luis Trallero for Radio Heraldo, and by Ricardo Turmo and Félix Fernández Vizarra for Radio Huesca, with the broadcasts alternating throughout the game. Both teams were considered strong contenders to join the clear favorite, Sabonis' Forum, in one of the two qualifying spots for the second phase in the top group. They entered the match tied in the standings with four wins and two losses each. The referee was Juanjo Neyro, who, more subdued than usual, didn't deliver one of his typical masterclasses.
