Counting Winged Visitors: Bird Census at Pong Dam

For more than two decades, the Wildlife Division of Himachal Pradesh Forest Department has been conducting the annual waterbird census. This training film follows them on their annual exercise at the Pong dam wetland, showcasing the step-by-step process of conducting this exercise and its contribution towards better management of the wetland. Pong dam lake in Himachal Pradesh is a Ramsar wetland and a pilot site for an Indo-German project, along with three other Ramsar sites in India, which aims to strengthen the institutional framework and capacities for an ecosystem-based integrated management of wetlands. -- A production of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India.
