Twitter @juangangel In this chapter of field work, we will be in the municipality of Hispania in the department of Antioquia, where we will discuss the work that has been done in this important livestock industry: breeding Simmental cattle and crossbreeding with Zebu breeds, especially the Gyr breed. We will demonstrate to Colombia and the world that it is possible to carry out important genetic work focused on dairy farming in the lowland tropics. SimGyr males have a higher weaning weight. They have greater weight gain, excellent adaptability, sexual precocity, higher carcass yield, lean and tender meat, with extra marbling and good flavor, a younger age at slaughter, and excellent profitability. Their carcass weight is rated outstanding, ensuring the success of beef production (tender and quality). SimGyr females have excellent maternal ability, strength, excellent fertility, and are hardy, producing good milk in both quality and quantity. The female has a docile temperament, a young age at first calving with a short calving interval, and a long lifespan. The females are in high demand for embryo transfer programs, as they guarantee the viability and proper development of the offspring.
