"There is neither earth, nor water, nor fire, nor air, nor infinite space, nor nothingness. There is neither this world nor another world. It is simply the end of suffering." This is how the Buddha in the Pali Canon described nirvana – a state of liberation from the cycle of birth and death, the end of reincarnation, a state of emptiness. Attaining nirvana is the most important goal of Buddhists; they do not dream of paradise, eternal happiness in the company of a deity, or the resurrection of body and soul. Deity and soul do not exist. In this situation, the end of suffering is a sufficient goal.
