Joe's Garage is An attack on authoritarianism in which fascist governments, self-help pseudo-religions and the music industry are inextricably linked, and is an autobiographical Rock Opera chronicling a musician's struggles with his audience, the government, critics and even with himself as Joe wonders why he squandered his life and talent on the corrupt business of rock & roll. In this Rock Opera, Joe (an average adolescent male) forms a garage rock band, has unsatisfying relationships with women, squanders all his money to corrupt government mandated programs and defunct religions, exploiting in promiscuous activities then enduring imprisonment. Only to be released into a dystopian society in which Music has been outlawed by the government in an attempt to unify the people through “total criminalization,” Joe lapses into insanity.
