Gyawa/Gewa ( Death Ceremony ) of my grandmother from Hyolmo/ Yolmo ( Nuwakot) Helambu Nepal(2013)

After the cremation of the deceased body, the ceremony marks the end of a period called the Gyawa. The word literally means gap or in-between state. In Tibetan Buddhism, the Gyawa is the 49-day transition period between death and rebirth. Gyawa ceremonies typically take place in the monasteries and gather relatives of a dead person. This is gyawa of my grandmother ( Gompa Dolma sherpa ) from Nuwakot ( Mhagu ), Helambu Nepal performed in Hyomo Gompa, Tinchuli in 2013. Many times I cried while making these clips and i never felt she left us without saying good bie.
