Die schönsten Dörfer Hollands? Hoorn und Edam in 4 Tagen - Kurztrip mit dem Wohnmobil nach Holland
Hello everyone, and a warm welcome to a motorhome trip to wonderful Holland. Four days in Hoorn and Edam, is that enough time for these places on the IJsselmeer without getting camper burnout? Let's give it a try. Anyone who's interested can climb aboard and take part in our little challenge. One house is locked, one is unlocked, and the passengers are settling in smoothly. We set off at a brisk 6 degrees... The nearly 300 km journey took us through beautiful roads and landscapes in poor weather. And, strongly reminiscent of the crossing to RÖMÖ, one might think, as if in a biblical example, the IJsselmeer splits and lets Kai-Uwe and his small group pass. Point one of the challenge - where to stay? I've already made a lot of phone calls from home, with rather limited success. The problem of finding a parking space or campsite has many faces. These range from fully booked to closed to being renovated. So we set off on a whim, fingers crossed. But trying is better than staying home, and the IJsselmeer was the one. So off we went... And what luck! A friendly inquiry to a water sports club in Hoorn was a resounding success. As if by magic, the bollard lowered and we were allowed in. As the wire fence clearly shows, this is a private gathering place at certain times. Even the approach to the pitch suggested an interesting place. And sometimes things just work out. We were given the opportunity to park right next to the sailboat harbor. The pitch cost us €26 per night, including electricity, water supply and disposal, Wi-Fi, and tourist tax. Here are a few more impressions of harbor life, which we were able to experience a little. The first walk gives us a hint of what awaits us in the historic old town. Hoorn is located on the IJsselmeer, a lake north of Amsterdam. The 17th-century town center, with its main square, Roode Steen, is home to numerous shops and cafés. In the harbor stands the Hoofdtoren, a tower dating back to the 16th century. The tour guide strolled along until an interested glance to the right sensed a leap back in time. The momentous turn of her head gave us a new outfit. And we almost bought a bicycle from that era, but there was no dog basket for that model. Speaking of bicycles - this is what the ride and bike project looks like in Holland, at Hoorn train station. Off home, one last look at the sea, and then eat the fish sandwich we bought along the way. After refreshments, the tour guide mingles with the crowd again. Apparently, they didn't have much to say to each other. And what they can't say to each other, they write down - even underwater in poem form... We consider Hoorn to be one of the most beautiful villages in Holland. We then enjoyed the obligatory fish and chips at our favorite bar, and if you're still not full, you can round off the meal with something sweet. A day by the water flies by, but the campsite is also a delight in the evening. The view from the bedroom - check As already mentioned, the campsite has everything a camper could need. The restrooms are modern, clean, and functional. Outside, there's an information board with all the important information about leisure activities. Here, we'd like to point out the proximity to the boatmen, with whom a chat always ensues. On the second day, we explored the surrounding area of Hoorn. Traces from the 16th and 17th centuries can still be found everywhere. Old city gates and parts of the old city wall, where you can now spend the night. Our dog, Grandma, still struts like a show horse for her 17 years. A day by the water flies by, but the campsite is also a delight in the evening. The former city gate is in wonderful condition and was our starting point... A beautiful old city gate on the edge of the city center, over 400 years old and beautifully preserved. Worth seeing. The footpaths and bike paths are excellent, as you'd expect from Holland. You just have to be careful to stay on the straight path.
