We begin the complete restoration process of a 30+ year old Mercedes-Benz W124 instrument cluster. In this video, we didn’t just rebuild a dashboard cluster; we cleaned aged plastics, removed micro scratches, converted the lighting to LEDs, solved the common speedometer needle vibration issue, and openly shared every mistake and setback we experienced during the process. During this restoration: • The instrument cluster was completely disassembled • The plexiglass lens was separated and polished • Bacterial stains on the housing were cleaned • Gauge needles were restored • LED lighting conversion was completed • The common speedometer needle vibration issue was fixed • An electronic solution was applied for oil pressure fluctuation • A major mistake during the oil pump replacement forced us to remove the timing cover again • The timing chain, guides, and oil pump system were completely overhauled • A custom replacement lens project was started after cracking the original cluster glass In this video, I tried to show not only our successes but also our mistakes.
