Wednesday, August 31, 2011 - David Simon is an author, screenwriter, and producer whose background as a crime beat reporter has provided the basis for his creative examinations of the contemporary American city. Simon is best known as producer and writer of the critically acclaimed television series The Wire (2002--08) and Treme (2010--). These immersive novelistic works are richly populated with compelling characters whose intersections reveal the complex network of forces at play in cities. Whether detailing the plague of corruption in Baltimore or the rebuilding of community in post-Katrina New Orleans, Simon's works have much to tell us about how we live in cities today, our aspirations, and our challenges. © 2011 The Solomon R.
