Why can’t YOU do it too?!

Any and all recommendations or criticism is welcome, if you have any experience please feel free to share! BACKGROUND: I first had watch a few videos from ‪@togetherweharvest‬ and I was working security part time. So I decided to just go for it with no experience raising livestock, the most experience I have is your typical family pets (dogs, cats, fish). I got 330 at the end of each week and not all of that went to the chickens. I originally went and bought the brooder, etc. We went in the next day and bought our 7 chicks, originally was going to get 6 but we couldn’t help but take the last Buff Orpington, so she wasn’t left alone. Then after the last freeze we set up their coop and moved them outside. We let them free roam for awhile and then eventually got the fence housing and set that up. The next step was a new waterer as they started out drinking their original one. Then they started eating more and I needed to set both feeders out. Once that was set up for awhile I went back and got the “jungle gym” and set that up. Soon I will need to buy a bigger feeder, so I will probably get an updated designed water and feeder. I will also be setting up their nesting box soon and blocking it off until they are ready. Raising laying hens has not been that expensive, over all it probably cost me about $700 to get to the point we are at now(while intermittently getting the essentials). There are plenty of ways to cut that cost down still, but as your average lazy American it is still easily doable. If you are feeling the same way many of us are this is the next step you need to take towards self sufficiency and detachment from the system. Gardening is even easier and cheaper and can give you very similar benefits. Just take the dive, failure is only a learning experience and can only bring you closer to your goals. The real test will be this next coming winter, and luckily we got winter hardy breeds for the best luck when it gets cold.
