No son of his appeared during his lifetime, and the Ahl al-Bayt (the Prophet's family) were unaware of any son he had, neither openly nor secretly. One of his companions, 'Uthman ibn Sa'id al-'Umari, claimed that he had a secret son, five years old, but he offered no proof. The Shi'a of al-'Askari were perplexed for seventy years, searching, questioning, investigating, and researching, but they found no trace of this alleged son. This is the strongest evidence that no son existed. As for the one who claimed the son's existence, he alleged that al-'Askari used taqiyya (dissimulation) to conceal his son, but this claim is unfounded. It's acceptable because it's plausible that he was lying, and he was trying to gain favor by taking money from the Shi'a and claiming to deliver it to them. The Shi'a accused him of lying. So, what is your proof of the existence of the son, before you ask what the proof is for his non-existence? Abbas al-Musawi: I have no firm proof, only the narrations of Hakima and al-Nakhkhas, and neither of them is acceptable to reason or belief. I cannot establish a doctrine based on the words of a woman, nor can I accept the shame of accepting al-Nakhkhas's narration.
