Shield Arms Z8 Mag for Glock 43 – Range Test & Reliability Problems?!?

In this video, I finally hit the range with the new Shield Arms Z8 magazine for the Glock 43 — their flush(ish)-mount 8-round mag that promises more capacity without adding much size. After running the Z8 through some live fire drills, here’s the honest truth: Failure to chamber first round Premature slide lock (7th round triggers it) Failure to lock slide back on empty Even after keeping it loaded for months to break in the spring, this mag had multiple malfunctions, some of which some have tied to aftermarket slide catches — but even OEM users might run into problems. I compare the Z8 to: 🧪 MagGuts +2 (better grip, reliable) 🧪 TTI Base Pad + MagGuts combo 🧪 Pierce +1 + MagGuts combo (best grip option) Shield Arms needs to do some refinement — especially considering how their Z9 mags can be easily modded to run smooth. If you're willing to modify the Z8, it might work. But would I recommend it to most shooters? No — not in its current form. 📌 Drop a comment if you’ve had similar experiences — or if yours runs flawlessly. Let's figure this out together.    / @brandonbreezeguntube   🏷️ #ShieldArms #Glock43 #Z8Magazine #EDCgear #GunReview #Micro9mm #BrandonBreeze #RangeTest #PistolReliability #CCW #MagGuts #GlockEDC Shield Z8 Magazine – Real-World Range Test (Spoiler: Not Great) Finally took my new Shield Arms Z8 magazine for the Glock 43 to the range, and... it did not impress. Here's the breakdown: 🔸 Failure to chamber the first round — spring tension seemed too high 🔸 Slide locked back prematurely after the 7th shot (thanks to interference with an aftermarket slide release) 🔸 Final shot didn’t lock the slide back at all 🔸 I had already left it loaded for 2+ months to break in the spring — didn’t help much This mirrors some of the same problems I had with Z9 mags — but I was able to fix those with a bit of Dremel work on the follower shelf. Still, not ideal. ✅ I compared it to three other 8-round options: MagGuts +2: slightly taller, but way more grip and 100% reliable so far TTI Base Pad + MagGuts +1: same capacity, better purchase, no issues Pierce +1 + MagGuts +1: best grip, smooth feed, minimal printing Unless you’re fine with modding the mag (and possibly your slide catch), I can’t recommend the Z8 over these alternatives. I wanted to like it, but Shield needs to fine-tune this thing. Let me know if anyone’s had a positive experience — curious if I just got a bad one.
