One of the journalists’ most frequently asked questions has always been whether there were differences of the concert audiences between the various countries and cultures we have performed. I always said that once the lights go out and the first sounds fill the room, there are no differences. In the lobby beforehand or afterwards, perhaps, yes — but not during the concert. After Japan, however, I had to reconsider that answer, because things really were different there. We were backstage and wondered when the audience would finally be let into the hall, because there wasn’t a sound to be heard. I was told that the hall was already full and that everyone was waiting for us. Even during the concert, they were so disciplined that one might have thought they didn’t like it at all. But at the end of the first part, just before the intermission, they practically exploded. Eine der beliebtesten Fragen von Journalisten war immer, ob es einen Unterschied beim Publikum in den Konzerten zwischen den verschiedenen Ländern und Kulturen gibt. Ich habe immer gesagt, dass, wenn das Licht ausgeht und die ersten Klänge den Raum füllen, es keine Unterschiede mehr gibt. In der Lobby vorher und nachher vielleicht schon, aber nicht im Konzert. Nach Japan musste ich diese Antwort überdenken, denn dort war es wirklich anders. Wir waren hinter der Bühne und haben uns gefragt, wann denn nun das Publikum in den Saal gelassen würde, denn da war kein Laut zu hören. Man sagte mir, dass die Halle schon ganz voll sei und alle auf uns warten. Auch während des Konzertes waren sie derart diszipliniert, dass man hätte denken können, es gefalle ihnen überhaupt nicht. Doch am Ende des ersten Teils, vor der Pause, explodierten sie alle förmlich. So etwas hatten wir noch nie erlebt.» – Andreas
