CKE 16” ‘Extra Strong’ Exhaust Fan

Fans like this have been a part of my life since childhood. I used to visit my town’s CKE office branch & just have a look around for hours & hours. Sometimes my parents even treat that place as some sort of daycare, leaving me on the hands of the employees which have been friends with my parents for years. Everytime I saw a D blade exhaust fan as a kid, whether if it’s for sale or in use, I would stare at it as if the fans were hypnotizing me. Not until recently that I have a good excuse to finally buy one, because for all this time, I didn’t have space to keep a fan like this, nor the money to afford one. I got this fan secondhand for about half the original price, even though technically I still don’t have a place to keep this fan. For all this time I thought that this D blade exhaust fan’s design originated from China, but recently some fellow fan collectors showed me some real old D blade exhaust fans & their adverts, showing that the original design actually came from GEC in India. Those OG fans had way deeper pitch blades, and a more serious looking motor, which no doubt impressed me! There’s something about how this type of fan looks that just gives it an aura of toughness and that it means business. Although this particular fan can’t hold a candle to the GECs of old, it still packs a punch! For starters, it sounds like an angry piece of machinery, unlike the ‘Standard Type’ fans that just sound like a small car travelling on a highway, plus motor & blades are very heavy, but designed to spin at high RPMs, resulting in a very thick airflow as Indians would say! One interesting observation from comparing this D blade fan to a Japanese high pressure exhaust fan of the same size is definitely the difference in noise level. Both types of fans offer very similar airflow & pressure with the right motor & blade setup, but the D blade fan works with brute force while the Japanese high pressure fan considers efficient aerodynamics & prioritize silence. That difference makes sense I’d say, as the D blade exhaust fan’s design is already at least 70 years old now I believe, while the Japanese innovate everyday to make the quietest, most efficient powerful exhaust fans. #ExhaustFan
