The game's protagonist is Geralt of Rivia, known from earlier installments in the series, and the story focuses on the Nilfgaardian Empire's invasion of the Northern Kingdoms, stopping the titular Wild Hunt, which haunted Geralt in the novels and marked its presence in the first and second series, and the search for Ciri, the Witcher's adoptive daughter and Yennefer, his beloved. It's worth remembering that the game's plot is non-linear, and its course and ending are determined by the decisions we make throughout the game. The story is significantly expanded by two story expansions. In the first, Hearts of Stone, Geralt is hired by Mr. Mirror to face the immortal Olgierd von Everec. The second expansion, Blood and Wine, takes players to the land of Toussaint, one of the few untouched by the ravages of war. When a mysterious murderer, apparently not human, began to stalk the area, Duchess Anna Henrietta decided to seek the White Wolf's help. During the investigation, he uncovers the dark secrets of this idyllic place – seemingly idyllic only. In The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, the action is observed from a third-person perspective (TPP). The game offers a vast world divided into several large maps, which can be freely explored. These include locations such as the picturesque land of Velen, the Kaer Morhen fortress, home to the witchers of the Wolf School, the Skellige islands, and finally, the land of Toussaint from the Blood and Wine expansion. We can traverse them on foot, on horseback (Geralt's faithful steed, Roach, can be summoned at any time with a whistle), or by boat. The game is driven by quests that advance the plot, during which we conduct investigations, hunt monsters, and engage in political games. Furthermore, numerous side missions and optional activities, such as destroying monster nests, await our exploration. Interestingly, the virtual world is somewhat dynamic, and our actions can, for example, cause an abandoned village to become populated when Geralt eliminates bandits or monsters residing nearby. Enemy encounters play a key role here, requiring us to carefully observe our opponents' movements, evade, and launch swift counterattacks. During these encounters, we primarily use melee weapons (Geralt's iconic swords – one for humans, the other for monsters) and so-called Signs, reminiscent of spells. Humans – and members of other intelligent races – as well as all manner of mindless beasts stand in our way. Defeating the latter often requires the hero to increase their knowledge of them – primarily to discover their weaknesses. Some of them leave behind unique ingredients used for alchemy (Geralt can prepare and drink potions that grant him specific bonuses) and for crafting new items or upgrading existing ones. Furthermore, as we progress, we gain experience points and advance to new levels, gradually increasing the White Wolf's combat potential. Songs of the Past and Windows 10 Support With the release of the Songs of the Past expansion pack—many years after the debut of The Witcher 3—the minimum hardware requirements for the base game were raised. The abandonment of Windows 10 became a controversial issue—the developers stated that the program would likely continue to run on this version of Windows, but they weren't testing it (all computers at CDP RED already run Windows 11), so it wasn't included in the requirements.
