In this video, we set out on a mission to find the best Thakali restaurant in Kathmandu Valley — but not just based on our opinion! We reached out to over 20 food content creators and asked each of them to name their top 3 Thakali Khana spots. Based on their responses, we created a ranking of the most recommended places — and now it’s time to try them for ourselves! Special thanks to Gurung Eating Channel, Mr Foodie Nepal, My Darling Food and many more for sharing your recommendations! At #3, there was a four-way tie between Local Thakali (Gairidhara), Thak Khola (Jhamsikhel), Melung Thakali (Baluwatar), and House of Thakali (Battisputali) — so we spun a wheel and ended up at Melung Thakali, where we tried the chicken set, badel set, and their amazing mutton aalu jimbu sukuti. For #2, with around 45% of the total votes, we visited Tukuche Thakali Kitchen in Gairidhara — and honestly, the taste here felt like it could’ve been #1! Finally, the most voted Thakali restaurant, winning more than 50% of the total votes, was Mantra Thakali in Jhamsikhel.
