Wheaton Remembers: Growing Up on the North Side in the 1960s

What was Wheaton like in the 1960s? Longtime residents John Hartness, Nick Kosiara and Larry Tabor have plenty of stories to share. For starters, the north side of Wheaton had a horse race track and a nursing home with zoo animals used for therapy. What is now Northside Park’s sledding hill was a swimming pool built in the 1930s as part of President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s Works Progress Administration projects.
