A competitive price war between Smitty’s and Lucky’s stores has broken out in Arizona over two-liter bottles of Pepsi. Smitty’s advertised the soda for $0.87, leading Lucky’s to offer its own employees $1.07 for every bottle they purchased from their competitor to resell. While Smitty’s management expressed surprise at the aggressive tactic, customers remain focused on the significant savings during the weekend sale. McDonald’s has officially introduced Chicken McNuggets to the Phoenix market after two years of success in the Northeast. The new menu item consists of 70% white meat and 30% dark meat, served with a choice of four different sauces. While McDonald’s officials cited security reasons for keeping their cooking process private, early sales in the valley are exceeding expectations despite mixed reviews from locals regarding the taste. Arizona continues to face challenges from severe weather and social needs as the holidays approach. Strong winds near Grand Avenue and Union Hills Road destroyed a 12 by 64-foot mobile home, leaving a family of five homeless, while snow began falling just north of Phoenix. Meanwhile, St. Mary’s Food Bank is reporting a critical shortage of food boxes and is calling for volunteers to help meet the heavy demand before Thanksgiving.
