Diving Chachacha Bonaire | The Shore Dive Collection | TropicLens - 4K

Diving Chachacha is a bit special given that diving is discouraged when cruise ships are docked next door, which is at least part of the day on most days. That said, the reef’s historical proximity to a working dock for cruise, cargo and military ships has caused a bit of wear and tear on the reef. Still, it’s a super easy dive with multiple entry options and a dive shop directly across the street. We even caught two more first time captures…a blacker wrasse and a spiny brittle star. Unfortunately, many of the downtown Kralendijk dive sites were impacted by stony coral tissue loss disease (SCTLD) shortly after we shot this video. Bonaire’s marine park management organization, STINAPA, is advising against diving these site for the time being. Be sure to check their sites for the latest information about SCTLD, its current status and how to minimize impact when diving on Bonaire. The first is Florent's Guide To TheTropical Reefs which can be found at https://reefguide.org. Its free and has lots of pictures, but is not comprehensive. The second is “The Reef Set: Reef Fish, Reef Creature and Reef Coral (3 Volumes)”. The box set can be found on Amazon; however with all our travels, we also purchased the eBooks (http://fishid.com/store/product-categ...) so we don’t have to carry an extra five pounds of paper in our luggage. :-) We also reference other sources from time to time as well.
