3 Albert Collins Licks From 1993
Hey everybody! Here's the next episode of Three-For-All with 3 Albert Collins Licks From 1993. I've had a number of requests to feature the late-great blues guitar legend Albert Collins, and this lesson dives deep into his playing style while uncovering a number of his slick licks and phrases - so let's dive in! Albert's legendary and unusual playing style involved tuning to an open F minor chord, and then he'd commonly slap a capo somewhere between the 7th-11th frets (depending on what key he was playing in). This episode mentions his unusual approach, but everything we're playing/targeting here is played in "regular" standard tuning and without the capo. We are keeping the fingerstyle picking approach that Albert preferred using, so you won't need a pick during this lesson. The ideas shared here were revealed in Albert's classic REH instructional video from March of 1993, which was the same year that he passed away (in November 1993). So, it's an interesting look at near the end of his life and career, and he shares a lot in that revealing and informative/inspiring video. The ideas shared in this episode include an in-depth primer focusing on getting a grip using Albert's signature and distinct vibrato style, not to mention plenty of slick licks and phrases - including a standard blues phrase with various variations added to the mix, a stinging melodic blues phrase, a funky b5 idea, a funky scat-singing lick, and much more! Needless to say, if you're an Albert Collins fan, a blues guitar fan, or maybe a player looking for some behind-the-scenes details surrounding an absolute legend of blues guitar music - this episode is totally for you!
