The story of the arrival of Bukhara Jews to Bukhara was shaped by the influence of migrations and trade in Central Asia throughout history. One of the most common theories is that the origins of the Bukhara Jews date back to the Babylonian exile. When the Babylonians conquered the Kingdom of Judah and exiled the Jews to Babylon in 586 BC, some Jewish communities migrated beyond Babylon, that is, to the inner regions of Iran and Central Asia. It is thought that Bukhara Jews settled in the region during this period. Bukhara was an important trade center on the Silk Road throughout history. Trade allowed Jewish merchants to come and settle in this area. Jews worked as merchants and craftsmen, establishing settlements along trade routes. Thus, it is thought that Bukhara Jews may have come to the region through these trade networks. During the Persian Empire, Jews were able to travel freely and establish settlements throughout Persian lands. The Persians' tolerant policies towards Jews may have paved the way for Jews to settle in Central Asia. In addition, with the spread of Islam to Central Asia, Jewish communities began to migrate to the newly conquered lands and formed a settled community in Bukhara. Over time, Bukhara Jews took root in Central Asia and continued their lives while preserving their cultural and religious identities. They built synagogues, established Jewish educational institutions and created a rich cultural heritage. This community has become an important part of both Central Asia and the Jewish world by intertwining with the local culture.
