News Central report on Alfalfa growth in Jigawa, supported by Propcom+
In October 2024, Propcom+ signed a partnership agreement with Matura Agro Resources Limited to implement a targeted intervention leveraging innovative technologies and sustainable practices to scale feed and fodder production and improve market access for smallholder farmers engaged in fodder grass production. The company used the grant funding to acquire a centre pivot irrigation system with a supporting solar system, construct a warehouse for storage and acquire two electric vehicles to convey the harvested grass to the aggregation points. This setup enabled Matura Agro to cultivate its first Alfalfa grass six months after the partnership was established and has since sustained all year-round cultivation, installing an additional pivot system. This has attracted the attention of both public and private sector actors, who are now keen to invest in cultivation of Alfalfa grass. Recently, the Jigawa State Government announced an MoU with a consortium of investors for the large-scale cultivation of Alfalfa, committing up to 100,000 hectares of land to the project. This report by News Central seeks to amplify Propcom+'s strategic role in driving innovation and economic growth within Jigawa's livestock sector and beyond.
