A Benign Meningioma | Taj’s Story
Taj’s medical journey began with concerning blood test results and a persistent physician who wanted an explanation. When he learned that he had a mass the size of a golf ball in his brain — a benign meningioma brain tumor — he was shocked. When he researched his diagnosis and treatment online, he was disappointed. He didn’t see stories of Black men receiving treatment for this diagnosis, despite the fact that they have a higher incidence of nonmalignant brain tumors compared with other races in the U.S. Taj sought to change this and began documenting his journey. Because the tumor was pressing on a main draining vein in the brain, neurosurgeon Henry Brem recommended removing it. Now recovered from surgery, Taj is sharing his story. #benignmeningioma #johnshopkins #patientstory
