Mastering the Demaree Method Guide
The Demaree Method is a specialized beekeeping technique used to prevent swarming while maintaining a high population for honey production. By physically separating the queen from her existing brood using a vertical split, beekeepers can trick the colony into believing a swarm has already occurred. This process involves placing the queen in a bottom chamber with fresh comb while moving the majority of the developing bees to the top of the hive. To ensure success, the keeper must remove emergency queen cells from the upper box and provide an exit for drones. Ultimately, this strategy relieves hive congestion and allows the colony to remain productive without losing half its members to the natural swarming instinct.
