Kenya’s apparel sector in limbo as AGOA expires
For the last two and a half decades, Kenya’s apparel sector has seen tremendous growth, backed by the african growth and opportunities act (AGOA) in the united states, which allowed Kenyan-made apparel access into the vast american market free of tariffs. But with AGOA now expired as of the 30th of September 2025, the sector is in limbo with no deal yet in sight. Jimmy Mbogoh visited the export processing zones in Kitengela to assess the preparedness of Kenyan manufacturers who may now be forced to make seek alternative markets for their goods or make some significant cutbacks that will have far reaching impact on tens of thousands of job
