The King Blues - Emergency, EMERGENCY!!!

Emergency, EMERGENCY!!! “Give us some truth” Joe Strummer I was in Andalusia a few years back and the airbnb I was staying in had this radio that was stuck on this one station that played nothing but old flamenco songs. It took a few nights but eventually I just utterly fell in love with it. The musicians were just undeniably brilliant- lifetimes beyond anything I could play- but what really got me was how aggressive the playing was. It was punk rock on acoustic instruments, being sung with so much passion and pain that I believed every word, even if I couldn’t understand any of them. The lyric is because compared to what I was hearing here, I’m finding it inevitably more and more difficult to get excited by new music and that I don’t know whether that’s because the music is bad and we’re at a cultural low point or because I’ve inevitably turned from an angry young man into a grumpy old git? Truth is, playing music still excites me as much as it ever did. This song became so alive in the rehearsal room when being played with Andy's massive beat filled with percussion and Angus' shaking bass. Megumi Mesaku provides the percussive saxophone with Marianne holding down those long violin notes with Tom bringing the punk edge in. The band are solid, solid players and it’s not just an honour, but a joy to play with them --- Lyrics: I went on Spotify And clicked on the Top Ten And every song made me Turn it off again So the club is packed but The dance floor is empty Encore, no more No please, we’ve had plenty We don’t want it We don’t need it It don’t touch my soul Or my spirit They don’t make them Like this no more I heard their beats And I read their lyrics It don’t touch my soul And no I don’t feel it Meaningless rhymes and flows Is that it now?Am I getting old Or is music just shit now? I remember our sound system ran Now the message is lost And the rhythm don’t slam They don’t make them Like this no more Emergency We’re pissing off the neighbours Wall to wall Emergency One more sound boy dying On the floor When the beat is right Then the poison is potent the weapons we hold They can blow an explosion Vibration felt from Right over the ocean Look who holds the power now I stand on the street and I sing my heart out Louder than all the Military blasts now They don’t make them Make them like this no more I’ll make so much noise I won’t hear what’s in my head I won’t hear the constant construction in progress I won’t hear the bombs or the wars or the fighting Or anything else I make up when I’m hiding So much noise that I won’t hear my demons I’ll drown them all out be louder than their screaming They don’t make them make them like this no more Emergency We’re pissing off the neighbours Wall to wall Emergency One more sound boy dying On the floor When was the last time You heard a song That grabbed you and Made you feel like you belong That made you want to Smash windows and protest Kiss the ground beneath you And all that is Holy I want to hear one That makes me feel something That makes me declare my love From burning buildings Then makes me forget That I ever had feelings As if a new ending is Now a beginning Music is shit now Let’s not beat about it Don’t wanna hear it You ain’t about it Why do you shout it Shut up, don’t spout it You heard a good new band? Doubt it Emergency We’re pissing off the neighbours Wall to wall Emergency One more sound boy dying On the floor --- Video Credits: Directed & Produced by Andrew McKenzie DOP Mark Pullon Location provided by Engine Rooms Studios 2026 Tour Tickets: thekingblues.org Stream A Monkey Could Do That at: Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/artist/1FUnt...
