Q: What's the Tilaran route like? A: Winds through mountains with Lake Arenal views. Well-maintained paved road. Several viewpoint stops available. Passes through Tilaran town and along lake's north shore. More scenic but winding sections. Q: What about Bijagua/Upala route? A: Heads north from Liberia through Upala area, passes near Rio Celeste entrance. Less winding than lake route. Flatter terrain initially. Good for stopping at Tenorio National Park. Q: Where can you stop on each route? A: Tilaran route: Tilaran town (services), Lake viewpoints, Nuevo Arenal village Bijagua route: Upala town, Rio Celeste/Tenorio Park entrance, Bijagua village Q: Which route is easier to drive? A: Bijagua route has less winding sections. Tilaran route more curves around lake. Both well-maintained. Tilaran offers better lake views. Bijagua better for waterfall stop.
