Instead of confessing, "Oh, How Merciful God Is!", they sang like parrots, "Oh, why do those people do what they should not do!" Instead of being people who learn mercy, resemble it, and rejoice with God, they were becoming lost souls who opposed mercy and stood against God. What they should have said was not, "Those people are sinners," but, "Can I be forgiven too?" It was not about saying, "Isn't that something that shouldn't be done?" but about quietly remaining by Jesus' side. The Pharisees are truly pitiful people. This is because, despite their best efforts, they become miserable within their own thoughts and words. They encountered love, but they become increasingly awkward with it. They want to be loved and feel love, but they drift further and further away from it. They say they are decent people, but they become increasingly miserable. They want to become love, but unable to heal within their wounds, they come to resemble hatred. Let us be careful when the confession, "Ah, how merciful God is," disappears. Let us also be careful when condemnation and slander rise to our lips while thinking, "I am a decent person." We are all here because we have been mercifully called. I pray that in the bosom of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of Mercy, we may come to resemble the Sacred Hearts of both.
