Pupil of Sterndale Bennett : Francis Edward Bache - Piano Concerto in G minor [FULL WORK]
Movements: 0:00 Allegro 12:04 Andante 16:32 Allegro moderato Francis Edward Bache (1833–1858) was a prodigious English composer and pianist whose brilliant career was tragically cut short by tuberculosis at the age of twenty-four. A pupil of William Sterndale Bennett and later a student of Moritz Hauptmann and E. F. Richter in Leipzig, Bache was deeply influenced by the German Romantic school, producing a body of work—most notably his piano concertos and numerous salon pieces—that showcased a sophisticated harmonic language and virtuosic flair rarely seen in his British contemporaries of the mid-19th century. Despite his physical fragility and the brief time allotted to him, he established a significant reputation across both England and the Continent, leaving behind a legacy that remains a compelling, if poignant, example of unfulfilled potential in the Victorian musical landscape. His Piano Concerto in G minor, composed in 1850, is an early work that remains unpublished and largely unperformed in its original state. Because it predates his more well-known Piano Concerto in E major (Op. 18, 1851/1856), it serves as a fascinating window into his developmental years as a student of William Sterndale Bennett. The concerto is structured in three movements, though not written out— was typically categorized as Allegro, Andante, and Allegro moderato. Unlike his later E major concerto, which is characterized by its sophisticated, Mendelssohnian fluidity and structural integration, the G minor concerto is a raw, youthful exploration of the genre.
