My time in Zambia was characterised by long stretches of straight roads through dry bushes and charcoal production sites, followed by tough days on sandy tracks through national parks. I slept right next to the Luangwa river, where I could hear the hippos in the river, monkeys in the trees and other mammals walking around at night.
