Todos los Grandes Felinos Extintos Explicados en Detalle
All the Extinct Big Cats Explained in Detail Thirty million years ago, in the dense forests that covered Europe and Asia, walked the animal that started it all. Proailurus lemanensis is considered the first true cat in history, the prototype upon which every feline that came after was built. It weighed barely seven kilograms, roughly the same as a large domestic cat, with a long, low body that moved among the branches with the fluidity of a marten. It had no saber-like canines or monumental claws. What it did have were perfectly developed carnassial teeth, those scissor-like molars that allow felines to cut meat with surgical precision. This dental design, which emerged thirty million years ago on the shores of Lake Geneva in Switzerland, where its first fossils were found, is exactly the same one a leopard uses today to tear apart a gazelle.
