[Profile] 14th Class Graduate of the Tachiarai Army Boys' Flying School Kunitake Toritani Born October 1926 Age 97 (as of January 20, 2024) Served as an Army pilot in the Army's all-out air attack during the Battle of Okinawa, which began on March 26, 1945. At age 19, he was assigned to the Shinbu Unit by military order. He spent his days practicing suicide attacks in a Type 97 fighter plane, seeing off his classmates as they departed for the attack missions. After receiving notice of the end of the kamikaze attacks in Manchuria, he was captured by the Soviet Army and detained in Siberia for two years, performing forced labor, before being demobilized and returned to Japan.
