Biogas is a gas produced by the hydrogen or methane fermentation of biomass. Methane decomposition of biomass occurs under the influence of three types of bacteria. In the food chain, subsequent bacteria feed on the waste products of the preceding ones. The first type are hydrolytic bacteria, the second are acid-forming bacteria, and the third are methane-forming bacteria. All three types of bacteria, not just methanogens, participate in biogas production. Biogas composition: 50-87% methane, 13-50% CO2, minor impurities of H2 and H2S. After CO2 is removed from biogas, biomethane is produced. Biomethane is a complete analogue of natural gas, the only difference being its origin.
