30th Anniversary of its Revival / Europe's Largest Student Carnival / Caen 2026 / Normandy, France

In Caen, Normandy, France, the largest student-organized carnival in Europe is held every year. Its history is long, with the first student carnival taking place in 1894. The carnival continued through both World Wars, but disappeared after the 1963 event. For the next 33 years, the student carnival was not held. In 1996, university students revived the Caen student carnival. While the number of participants in 1996 was just over 3,000, the number has increased year by year, and since 2022, it has consistently exceeded 30,000. As a result, it has grown into the largest student-organized carnival in Europe. 2026 marks the 30th anniversary of the revived carnival in 1996.
