Sandhill Crane Nest - One Day After First Colt Hatches

Egads! Yesterday I was able to video the first egg hatching from a Sandhill Crane Nest. Overnight .45 inches of rain fell, then it rained/sleeted/snowed throughout the area today adding another .88 inches. To add misery, the air temperature dropped to 34F degrees during the heavy precip. event. This was a tough day for the Sandhill Cranes. Not only did they have to contend with unseasonably cold temperatures, they had to deal with rising flood waters. As you can see in these two segments, the waters continued to rise throughout the day. The second egg has a pip in it, but has yet to hatch. Will the nest survive the night? Hard to know for sure.
