KMTC LANDS IN MALINDI: Malindi MP Hon. Amina Mnyazi, Kilifi leaders launch campus construction

A new chapter in education and healthcare development has begun in Malindi following the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a new Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) campus in the town. The landmark project, spearheaded by Malindi Member of Parliament Hon. Amina Mnyazi, is expected to transform healthcare training, create employment opportunities, and boost the local economy. The ceremony, held at Muyeye on the outskirts of Malindi town, brought together national and county leaders, health officials, education stakeholders, and residents who turned up to witness what many described as a historic moment for the region. Among the leaders present were KMTC Deputy Chief Executive Officer Dr. Nyawera Mwangi, Kilifi Deputy Governor Flora Chibule, Kilifi County Executive Committee Member for Health Peter Mwarogo, Shella Ward MCA Abdulkarim, and Malindi Senior Assistant County Commissioner Brian Kirui. Speaking during the event, Hon. Amina Mnyazi expressed her excitement and relief that the project had finally moved from the planning stage to implementation. She noted that Malindi is experiencing rapid population growth, increasing the demand for quality healthcare services and trained medical personnel. According to the legislator, the groundbreaking ceremony marks the realization of a dream she has pursued for years. She thanked government agencies and stakeholders who worked tirelessly to ensure the project became a reality. Kilifi Deputy Governor Flora Chibule and Health CECM Peter Mwarogo described the project as a major boost to healthcare development in the county. They noted that strengthening medical training institutions is essential in supporting the county's efforts to improve healthcare delivery and ensure adequate staffing in health facilities. KMTC Deputy CEO Dr. Nyawera Mwangi welcomed the development, assuring residents that the institution is committed to ensuring the campus meets all the required standards before student admissions commence. She praised local leaders for allocating adequate land for the project, saying the space will allow for future expansion and the development of modern training facilities. Shella Ward MCA Abdulkarim called on local residents to take advantage of the opportunities that will come with the institution. He noted that the presence of hundreds of students in the area will stimulate economic growth and create new income-generating opportunities for local families. Malindi Senior Assistant County Commissioner Brian Kirui said the construction phase alone will provide employment opportunities for local youth, helping to address unemployment challenges in the area. He added that increased economic activity and job creation could contribute significantly to reducing crime and improving livelihoods among young people.
