The new Masters of the Universe movie has a lot going for it: good action, solid effects, a committed cast, and a visual recreation of Eternia that respects much of the classic design. Nicholas Galitzine works very well as Adam, Alison Brie shines as Evil-Lyn, and Morena Baccarin seems born to play the Sorceress. The problem lies elsewhere. The film seems convinced that He-Man needs to be "fixed" to exist in 2026. The most powerful man in the universe ceases to be a heroic fantasy and becomes a character obsessed with dialogue, emotional management, and self-discovery. Meanwhile, many of the franchise's classic elements are reduced to jokes or sources of embarrassment. The result is a film that tries to modernize He-Man but ends up confusing his appearance with his essence. Because behind the muscles and the sword, there was never a toxic hero, but rather a character who trusted his friends, respected women, and understood that strength was only one part of what made him special. Was it necessary to deconstruct He-Man? That's the big question that, for @fadein-fadeout, Masters of the Universe leaves us with.
