Oil storage/waste container https://click.linksynergy.com/deeplin... Is an oil catch can necessary? It depends. Why would you need one? OEM designs are created for emissions reasons, not performance. On stock engines, the crank case is vented directly into the intake. As engine oil temperatures increase small amounts of oil and even water are vaporized and then vented into the air intake. Overtime this oil blow by creates carbon buildup throughout your intake box, throttle bodies, valves and other important components. At high RPMS and performance driving, this oil blow by increases significantly resulting in a gunked up engine. An oil catch can or oil separator prevents all of this, and also ensures that any moisture created with engine operation remains out of your engine oil. With all this in mind, an oil catch can is a must have for any performance driven car. We recently installed our Turner Motorsports CSL air intake box, so now is the perfect time to install our catch can. So lets dive in and install it on our M3 -The kit used in the video contains a bracket that makes mounting simple, directly into your E46 M3. The drain line is optional, we chose to use it. If an entire line is not an option with your application, you may just plug it, or install the valve only- requiring you to occasionally drain your cannister. After installation and use- regularly maintain your cannister by draining and cleaning it. the instructions provided will have the information needed to do so.
