Before Cars, What Did Detroit Make?

The Art Stove Company was one of many in Detroit, and their offices at 1401 East Milwaukee Avenue were built in 1907. Designed by George Hunt Ingraham, the building served the company until it was sold to the Detroit Stove Works in 1923. It was later sold to Frank L. Bromley Properties Incorporated and was vacated in the 1990s. Today, it’s for sale at the hands of the City of Detroit, which received it in foreclosure.
