20 Great Japanese Woodblock Print Series Every Collector Should Know
In this video, I explore 20 great Japanese woodblock print series that every collector should know - plus two bonus series I simply couldn't leave out. One of the great joys of collecting ukiyo-e is discovering the world of print series. Whether your interest is landscapes, actor prints, beautiful women, historical subjects, warriors, or scenes of everyday life, collecting a series allows you to dive deeply into the vision of a particular artist and the culture of a particular time. We'll look at some of the greatest series created during the golden age of Japanese woodblock printing, including famous landscape series, remarkable collaborations between artists, dramatic Kabuki actor portraits, beautiful Meiji-era designs, and legendary warrior prints. For each series, I’ll discuss its history, show examples, and provide a rough price range to help collectors understand what they might expect to find in today's market. Please remember that all price estimates are approximate and intended only as a general guide. Values vary greatly depending on condition, impression quality, color, margins, rarity, design, and collector demand. Prices discussed refer to original period prints and not later reproductions or reprints. Of course, this list only scratches the surface of the incredible world of Japanese woodblock prints, and many wonderful artists and series could not fit into a single video. Be sure to leave a comment with your favorite series or suggestions for a future Part Two. Thank you for watching, and as always - happy collecting! #JapaneseWoodblockPrints #UkiyoE #JapaneseArt #Hiroshige #Kuniyoshi #Kunisada #Yoshitoshi #JapanesePrints #artcollector
