Explanation of what's (physically) required for a minimal DVS (one turntable) and how to connect it to add this functionality to a classic DJ setup¹. Serato only supports certified hardware³; But with other DJ software, you could also do this with any audio interface (and then configure the appropriate audio settings in that software): Traktor 3 (and possibly future versions) with a Traktor Mk1 or Mk2 control disc Rekordbox (only with "hardware unlock" DJ equipment connected at the same time or with a purchased plan, if I'm not mistaken) with a Rekordbox control disc VirtualDJ MixVibes Cross DJ Pro, with a MixVibes control disc Ms Pinky, with a Ms Pinky control disc Deckadance Digital Scratch xwax ...and maybe I'm forgetting some others. In the example, I'm using an audio interface with a single RCA input and one RCA output, so only one turntable can be used. But with another interface with another stereo input and output, or just with an interface with two stereo inputs and two outputs, you could plug in two turntables. With this audio interface, you CANNOT record without an additional audio input (only the line or phono input can work on this model, never both at the same time).
